St Agnes Cemetery was established on March 12, 1878. The cemetery contains 4,400 burial sites and over 2,000 people have been interred in carefully numbered plots. The Death Registry began in 1911, therefore death records before 1911 are not available.
Mary Dayberry who was serving as a part-time parish secretary began transferring death registry data to index cards and computer files in 1984. In 1985, Roger Ruark assisted in installing metal tags at the corners of each plot to aid in locating individual plots with metal detectors. Anna Clements and her husband Fred along with Maurice Willett contributed to the history of this effort over the years by recording vital statistics from actual headstones. Anna Clements continued serving on the Cemetery Committee was joined by Bobby Buckman several years ago. They along with assistance from many other parishioners have consolidated prior information into an Excel spreadsheet, which now contains all available data in one place. This information has been transferred to a Microsoft Access database that will be used to maintain our records going forward. We continue to verify and improve accuracy of our cemetery records and with parishioners' personal knowledge will build on the work that has preceded.
Thanks to the efforts of former parishioner Michael Guillerman, publisher of the Sesquicentennial Edition of the St Agnes Parish Directory, who gathered pictures taken at various project sites. He was also onsite when improvements were made to the cemetery and wrote a thorough commentary on cemetery history since its founding in 1878 through 2010. For additional information and a list of those interred in the cemetery at that time please refer to the Parish Directory of 2010.>
Fr. Randy Howard supports the publication of a limited version of cemetery information on the St Agnes Website. The list of Lots and Plots now available on the website includes the availability of open plots linked to a map of contiguous plots in the various sections of the cemetery that are available for purchase. Contact the parish office if you are interested in one of the remaining sites.
Here is an explanation of the report, its contents and how you can use the information to verify its accuracy or report changes to the parish office by eMail and confirm the information is corrected in the next version of the report.
The information in the following spreadsheets will be updated quarterly.
